Our Formula

Sputnik ATX VC is an early-stage VC firm based in Austin, Texas that is addicted to identifying overlooked talent, funding them, training them and connecting them with opportunity.

Our 13-week accelerator teaches startups how to sell and gain traction. We help founders by connecting them to an ecosystem of hard-working nerds and investors, and training them for success.

Our only economic relationship with startups is that of an investor — we charge zero fees. “Sputnik” translates to partner, and we want to be your companion for success.

Format

The Sputnik ATX accelerator is an in-person program located in Austin, TX that provides start-up training focused on sales, mentoring, and ongoing support to successful applicants.

Founders in the program get access to office space in our awesome location in downtown Austin. Upon completion of the three-month program, founders will pitch to a group of VCs and have opportunities for follow-on funding.

If selected, you will be required to reside in Austin, TX or within 300 miles of Austin for the duration of the program.

All Sputnik ATX companies in the accelerator program receive a $100,000 investment via our SAFE note* with an option to invest up to $400,000 more. The SAFE note negates any need to haggle over your valuation. We prefer to just get to work, and let your results speak for themselves. Please look at our sample note for full terms and conditions.

Eligibility

Our investment thesis is focused on maker-founders that already have a minimum viable product and at least one customer. We like startups that create tons of consumer surplus for their customers.

We are open to most industries and verticals, excluding weapons, alcohol, recreational drugs, porn/adult, real estate, multi-level marketing, franchises, and restaurants.

Maker-Founders

We invest in founders that build product. The secret handshakes of starting up and scaling can be learned via targeted training, which is where we come in.

Consumer Surplus

This is the value a startup creates for the customer, defined by the difference between what a customer is willing to pay and what they actually pay.
